Marianne candy has a thick, refreshing mint flavoured shell that hides a chocolate heart inside. In other words fresh and crispy peppermint and delicious dark chocolate filling. With its red and white striped wrapper, Marianne is instantly recognisable!

Original Marianne candy is produced in Lappeenranta (Finland) at a rate of over a million kilograms annually. This charmingly tasty treat is a beloved classic that has been made since 1949. The unique combination of mint and chocolate in Marianne has been a favorite among consumers for decades.

Do you know about the sweet history of Marianne? I bet you don’t.. so keep reading.

Marianne originated in the hands of Finnish candy makers Aimo Martikainen and Antti Österman. Marianne candy combines ”Russian type of confectionery tradition” with French flavour. The product was conceived during wartime in Finland, but the actual production began only in 1949 after the wars.

Even before the future candy hit was named Marianne, the stripes on the wrapper were in place, and the familiar lyre-shaped mould for the production was in use. At the suggestion of artist Aimo Vuorinen, the candy was wrapped in classic red and white striped wrapping paper. Marianne candy’s shape has remained the same since the beginning. And actually the candy’s original name, Lyhde, comes from the shape. This beautiful shape crowns charming and tasty Marianne candy!
