Do you know about the sweet history of Marianne? I bet you don’t.. so keep reading.
Marianne originated in the hands of Finnish candy makers Aimo Martikainen and Antti Österman. Marianne candy combines ”Russian type of confectionery tradition” with French flavour. The product was conceived during wartime in Finland, but the actual production began only in 1949 after the wars.
Even before the future candy hit was named Marianne, the stripes on the wrapper were in place, and the familiar lyre-shaped mould for the production was in use. At the suggestion of artist Aimo Vuorinen, the candy was wrapped in classic red and white striped wrapping paper. Marianne candy’s shape has remained the same since the beginning. And actually the candy’s original name, Lyhde, comes from the shape. This beautiful shape crowns charming and tasty Marianne candy!
